Set of Ebony & Purple heart "Chopsticks & boxes" (Handmade in Iwate)

These chopsticks and chopstick boxes were handmade by well-experienced Japanese craftspeople.
A paper box contains 1 chopsticks and 1chopsticks box. The dark colored ones are made of ebony tree, and the other red ones are made of purple heart tree.
Ebony chopsticks are a little longer than purple heart ones as these are intended to be used especially by husband and wife.
In Japanese they are called “meoto-bashi (夫婦箸),” which means “2 pairs of chopsticks for husband and wife.”

There are Cherry blossoms on chopsticks, and Japanese maple leaves on chopsticks boxes , which are beautifully expressed by the outstanding Japanese traditional technique of inlaid work using shells & wood.

The craftspeople carved the surface of wood very delicately into the shapes of the blossoms and leaves, and then they inlaid shells into the chopsticks and wood into the chopsticks box.

FYI in the attached pictures, the words written on the papers around the chopsticks read "handmade inlay chopsticks" in Japanese, and the sticker in the package of eboney says "cloudy ebony."

Handling Instraction

These items cannot be washed in dishwashing machines, put in dish dryers or heat in microwave ovens.
Please be careful not to put these in water for a long time in order to prevent them from stains, deformation, flaking or other kinds of damage.
