Ryukyu glass is a traditional craft born in Okinawa, Japan.
The history of glasswork in Okinawa started about 100 years ago in the Meiji period, and it developed after World War II by recycling waste glass of coke and beer thrown away by US Military Bases there. Various colors of recycled glass and air bubbles that are easy to appear in recycling gave Ryukyu glass crafts their original and unique beauty.
Nowadays it is becoming hard to collect waste glass, and usually new glass is partially or entirely used, but the beauty of colorful glass and air bubbles which are great features of Ryukyu glass crafts remains unchanged and attracts us.
In this glass tumbler, luminous stones are confined by a special manufacturing method. They glow in the darkness
after they are exposed to sunlight or artificial lights. The glow fades
out about in an hour, but you can make the tumbler glow again by exposing
it to the lights.
Ryukyu glass crafts are NOT HEAT-RESISTANTbecause of the air bubbles, which make glass breakable when hot liquids are poured. Please be careful NOT to pour a hot drink.
We also have "Ocean Blue""Yellow""Pink" are avilable.
We hope you will enjoy Japanese sake or other kinds of alcoholic beverages with these beautiful Ryukyu glass sake cups!
5. DO NOT pour hot liquids as Ryukyu glass is NOT HEAT-RESISTANT.
